Participants and Fall Seminar Committee members at Pasadena, California, yesterday, October 9, 2015
David Graeler, Esq. and Brad Kuhn, Esq. - Nossaman LLP presented "Precondemnation Procedures: Acquiring Right of Way in a New World"
Excellent selection of cases and a dynamic presentation very well liked by all. Brad looks puzzled in one photo and content in the other; while David either smiles or smiles wider :)
THANK YOU - Nossaman LLP for the generous sponsorship of the event and for continually supporting our Chapter 1 activities.
Joey Mendoza - Overland, Pacific & Cutler and Stephen Bray - Hatch Mott MacDonald (on OCTA assignment) presented "Effective Right of Way Tools and Techniques for Managing Large Transportation Projects"
Steve had to be coerced to smile for the photo; therefore this 'not-too-clear' image is the only one we have. Good job on the OPC/OCTA presentation, even with Mark La Bonte - Overland, Pacific & Cutler absent due to his back injury. We hope you are feeling better soon, Mark, and we will have you back for our next event!
THANK YOU - Overland, Pacific & Cutler for your generous sponsorship of our event!
Jan Perry - City of Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department started the seminar with "Alternative Strategies for Economic Growth Post-Redevelopment"
Participants enjoyed hearing the many opportunities for our city with the LA River project and others.
Rick Orwig, Fall Seminar Chair, welcomed David Mieger, AICP - Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority to the podium for his very informative presentation "Los Angeles Metro Rail's Major Capital Expansion Program"
Metro has current projects in the works coming live next year and extensive expansion plans for the next 25-30 years. Right of way is alive and well @ Metro!
Regina Danner, Esq. - Richards, Watson & Gershon selected 6 recent court cases and informed us about "What Just Happened? Recent Developments in Eminent Domain Case Law"
Regina kindly provided all 6 cases she was discussing and we are listing them for your review. Interesting developments from litigation.
David Guder, SR/WA, Noe Bargas, PE and Brent Scharnberg - Southern California Edison presented "Challenges With Underground High Voltage Transmission"
Interesting undertaking by SCE. Good presentation outlining the many challenges of utility right of way. And we were able to touch the actual material used (pictured in front of Noe above).
Final presentation at our Fall Seminar 2015 was by William Von Klug, R/W-RAC whose mission is to determine and solve "How Bureaucracy is Slowing Down Projects and What Can Be Done About It"
We are certain there is an audience wanting to know exactly what Will is wondering and how can individuals get involved in solving it, while still staying gainfully employed.
A most sincere THANK YOU to our sponsors: Epic Land Solutions; Demetriou, Del Guercio, Springer & Francis LLP; and Percheron LLC - we could not present as good of a seminar without your generosity.
