Los Angeles has a lot to offer: beautiful beaches, mountains, vibrant downtown, horrible traffic, but hardly ever one thinks of right-of-way and tireless professionals bridging the gap between real estate related public and personal interests. We have over 300 members comprised of appraisers, attorneys, real estate officers, engineers, relocation specialists, acquisition/negotiation specialists, environmental scientists, utility managers and asset managers from entry levels to Senior Right-of-Way Agents.
For this FY our Board of Directors (see About page) approved 34 days of classroom education courses and the list by course coordinator can be viewed on our Contact page. Our Chapter's policy is that we do not cancel any course as long as at least one person is registered and we never charge late registration fees - make your travel plans with confidence and join us in sunny Los Angeles for one of the courses offered this year.
In addition to the IRWA courses we have traditionally offered Spring Seminar with valuation emphasis and Fall Seminar providing a mix of right-of-way topics and speakers. Fall Seminar 2015 is going to be held at Pasadena Sheraton on October 9, 2015 and while the final list of presenters is not yet available, I can reveal we are inviting Mark La Bonte, SR/WA, with Overland, Pacific & Cutler, David Graeler, Esq. and Brad Kuhn, Esq. with Nossaman, William Von Klug, R/W-RAC, Jan Perry with City of Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department, and Kenneth Stanberry, SR/WA, with Port of Los Angeles, to name a few. Be on the lookout for the seminar invitation in the next couple of weeks. We hope to see you in Pasadena this October! Continuing education credits (IRWA, MCLE and BREA) will be available.
While our Fall Seminar Committee Chair, Rick Orwig and Chapter 1 President, Norman Eke, are working hard on the slate of speakers and topics for October, our Valuation Seminar C0-Chairs Bill Larsen, SR/WA and Brad Thompson, SR/WA are already preparing for April 2016 when we will host the valuation oriented seminar. This past Valuation Seminar attracted over 100 members and their expectations were exceeded by the program presented. High standard for next year, but Bill and Brad will surprise us all again with an exceptional program.
Chapter 1 is also proud to renew the Voucher program this year: every member in good standing may take a free 1-day class (or receive credit for the value of 1-day on a multiple day) chapter offered classroom course from now through June 30, 2016. Register early by contacting a course coordinator; online registrations will not accommodate voucher use.
And lastly, we hope you will join us at our bi-monthly luncheons at Steven's Steak House in Commerce. Our Past Presidents Luncheon this past Tuesday at Tamayo restaurant was well attended and it was nice seeing everyone enjoying good company and Mexican food. Our speaker was Daniel Stekol with the update on IRWA.
